Among our highest priorities is making RvR as rewarding an experience as possible, and with that in mind, we are pleased to announce Warhammer Phase IV of our ongoing Experience Enhancements. Today, as you may have read in the warhammer 1.0.4 Patch Notes, we have made the following changes to experience rewards:

Warhammer Population Imbalance Issues

Seems warhammer is hot now, we get an news about warhammer population imbalance issues, let’s go to see what happened?
After a smooth launch and a lot of buzz, we're starting to see dents in Mythic Entertainment’s Warhammer Online world.
As it's not my intent to go on and list them, I wanted to narrow it down on one specific problem that might cause a series of problems that might very well drop the entire game a notch – Population imbalance between the different factions.
First, let's take a look at what this imbalance means and how it affects the world:
Most (if not all) servers seem to have a population of around 60% Destruction oriented characters and only 40% Order. While those numbers may change slightly, the majority remains on the destruction side.
This is a double edged sword of a problem. First, Order players end up with not enough participants to cover all the Public Quests. Since most of those quests require at least 4-5 players to complete in their last stage, the Order players are missing out on a lot of the less popular PQs. In addition, and maybe more importantly in the bigger picture, the only time when Order can gain the upper hand in RvR is either in a "guerrilla" raid of Destruction taken RvR control points (Night-time raids, small strike groups taking isolated locations, etc.) or when a large group of Order is assembled.
While the latter option seems very valid, we all know that it's also impractical to ask Order to organize an allied raid once a day at least.
Destruction's side isn't full of honey either – While there is enough population to run almost all of the PQs, I believe that the Destruction players are missing out the fun of just clicking on the WAR icon and getting instantly invited to join a scenario as their Order players can do. I can attest from my experience that queuing to an RvR scenario with my girlfriend while playing our Destruction characters would usually end up waiting for anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, while I was entering and leaving scenarios non-stop when playing our Order characters.

So, we get it, imbalance is bad. What caused it? A few things, in my opinion.
Post WoW Syndrome:
When WoW was launched, a decisive 60% of the players chose to play as part of the Alliance, while 40% were playing the Horde. Sound familiar?
Those Alliance players (myself included) were tired of playing the goodie-two-shoes characters and decided to be the mean Black Orc or the huge hulk of a man in armor with evil auras around him.
Public Relations and Paul Barnett:
I have been watching quite a lot of pod-casts and videos prior to WAR's launch. I dare any of you to find a video that talks as passionately about Order as the guys at Mythic talk about Destruction. I assume that they did it in order to promote more players to favor Destruction in order to create balance, but maybe ended up overdoing it.
Let's face it, they're cooler:
So in Destruction we have:
• Chaos - Big, corrupted people with mutating arms and impressive armors? – check.
• Dark Elves - Sexy, scantily clad women that can chop up things really fast? – check.
• Green Skins - "So ugly that they're cute" goblins and huge, loud brutes? – check.
Let's look at their Order counterparts:
• Order – Nothing fancy, just same old human without a tank? – check.
• High Elves – Weird hats, wiry and "fruity" vampire looking guys? – check.
• Dwarves – Small, unassuming, quiet, desperate with unimpressive armor? – check.
Need I say more?
Class balance:
You can feel it when you play a Nordenwatch scenario (or at least could before the cross-racial pairing system) – Order has weaker healers and no tanks. The result was a steam rolling fiasco on almost all scenarios you ended up playing (The Chosen running into your face and never dying).
I believe Mythic should have released those classes (Knights and Hammerers at least) even as "half-baked" as they were.
So now we know what imbalance is and we might have a hint on what caused it. How can it be fixed?
Population self balance – People go where they are needed. If you're just another Chosen in a crowd of 4-5 more in every scenario, it gets boring. If you're the only Ironbreaker, you're unique.
Underdogs – I don't know about most people, but I love playing the underdog. I want to know that if we won we did something good, not just another one of the daily grinds.
Class balance restored – It's a long shot, but the Knight of the Blazing Sun is something the Empire needs badly. I believe it will have a bigger effect on drawing people to Order then it's Dark-elven counterpart.
What kills you makes you tougher – Order players play more scenarios, they end up learning more, getting more experience, knowing their classes better. This will become crucial in Tier 4.
With all that said and done, it all boils down to Tier 4 and the City Sieges. It's a matter of how many Destruction and Order players stick it out through the leveling up process and end up facing off at Tier 4 and city sieges.
While I expect the imbalance to ease up over time, I really don't want to wake up every morning to see Altdorf sacked and see even more people leaving Order because their main pride and joy is constantly in ruins.

Warhammer Witch Hunters

I read a nice article from warhammer productor Mark David about warhammer Witch Hunters:
"You know what would be cool...?" For some reason these seemingly innocent words, when uttered from my mouth, cause hand-wringing or glares from our schedulers here at Mythic. Despite that, I can't help myself! I'm Mark Davis, and as one of the producers on the Warhammer project I get to use that phrase to your benefit! I'd like to share with you a few of my favorite "Wouldn't it be cool if" moments that I've had a hand in creating.
What's in the box?
Witch Hunters are a mysterious and imposing lot. Their methods, while effective, are often dark and secretive. Take, for example, Witch Hunter Drauwulf who hunts down heretics in the village of Bohsenfels deep in the dark forests of Ostland. After completing several tasks for him, he entrusts me to carry a "special box" to an associate of his down the road. But first, I must track down a unique beast in the forest and place its paw into the box. Next, and this he makes very clear, I am under NO circumstances to open the box once I've put the paw in. Now, why did he have to go and tell me that? OF COURSE I have to open the box now! Who wouldn't be tempted to open the box? So, playing this quest for the first time I thought "You know what would be cool? If, when you attempt to open the box, something horrible happens!" Oh yeah, this is Warhammer after all! It's a grim and perilous world of adventure and by opening the box you'll pay the consequences. Opening the box unleashes a horrible essence which in 10 minutes will kill you. You only have that long to deliver the box to its intended recipient to have a chance at surviving. I hope you have your mount handy!
calling a Heretic?
It's not just the forces of order who must respect Witch Hunters, even the forces of Destruction recognize the danger they pose. Deep in the forests of Reikland, the Witch Hunters led by Edvard Kohl have established a temporary headquarters near the Reikguard castle. In order to continue forward toward Altdorf and ultimate victory, the forces of Destruction must crush them beneath their boots. So, playing this for the first couple of times I thought, "You know what would be cool? If Edvard would do what any normal Witch Hunter might do when faced with a Heretic - put them to the stake and judge them"! So, during the final stage of the Public Quest, Edvard Kohl will declare one of the attacking players a Heretic and they will be placed upon the stake and only the quick reflexes of a healer will save them from paying the ultimate price. Now that's cool!
Witching Night
One of the many things I do is working out a plan for our live events. Just recently we all had time to look up from our computer screens to realize that Halloween was right around the corner and we'd like to provide some fun stuff to celebrate the occasion! So, you know what would be cool? How about a sneak peak at what we're prepping for the Halloween season - known as "Witching Night" in the Warhammer universe when the divisions between the living and the dead grow thin, and the power of Shyish, the Purple Wind of Magic, waxes. Evil cults, witches, and necromancers use this time to their advantage, easily raising the dead and calling upon them to spread wickedness across the land.
I love those moments in Public Quests when, on the final stage, the enormous boss monster stomps into the area and the final, epic conclusion begins to draw near. What will that boss do? Will he cast a nasty DOT? Perhaps he'll throw us all back into the aggressive monsters waiting along the fringes? It's a great adrenalin rush! Also equally, if not more so, are those moments in RvR when you're attacking the keep doors while the enemy pours down boiling oil, siege weapons are firing on both sides, and any moment you'll storm into the Keep where the final outcome will be decided! You know what would be cool? What if we combine the two? In the skirmish areas around the entire world during the Halloween holiday, there will be boss monsters lurking for players to kill. They'll have cool loot on them, of course, so players from both sides will want to take them down. I'm sure Order and Destruction will play nicely with each other and share equally with each other for the spoils of the fight - yeah right! What else would you expect from a Warhammer holiday? Trick-or-treating? Nah! Beating people over the head? Oh yeah!

In addition to the awesome conflict happening out in the RvR areas, we've got some unique encounters cooked up for anyone wanting to do some PvE Monster slaying. I don't want to spoil all of the amazing stuff we've got planned, but rest assured that it'll be "cool," rewarding, and very Warhammer.
Thanks for playing WAR, I'll look for you out there on the battlefield!
~Mark "Wouldn't it be cool" Davis

Boost WAR Performance for Free

It seems that there’s something wrong with the way Warhammer Online runs. I’ve talked to people with 5-year-old computers and brand new $2000+ rigs; almost everyone is having problems with stuttering and framerate regardless of what graphics settings they have set. After trying some of these methods myself and helping a few friends get these modifications running, and seeing a vast improvement in performance (I was surprised to be honest), I decided to make a post about this so I could just link people here instead of explaining it to everyone individually
Just to note, I didn’t come up with these fixes/modifications, I just came across them on various Warhammer Forums. Thanks to Alaria for posting this on our forums before I could get this article up. The links to the original authors/threads are at the bottoms of this post.

There are a few easy fixes one can do to improve the performance of your Warhammer Online game without having to spend a dollar. Obviously the first thing you should do is update your graphic drivers to make sure you have the most recent ones. This can be done through the Control Panel -> Display Drivers interface simply by right-clicking on the name of your graphics card and selecting ‘update drivers.’ Once you have the latest drivers, there are a few things you can do to enhance the visual quality of the game, and boost performance and frame rate at the same time…

BuffThrottle
The first, and easiest, would be to download a mod called BuffThrottle. All this little mod does is delay the refresh rate on your buffs and debuffs in your UI’s buff bars. The performance increase is very noticeable, especially when in scenarios and larger scale battles. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to get this working for you:
• 1. Download BuffThrottle from Curse gaming
• 2. Go to your Electronic Arts -> Warhammer Online -> Users -> Interface folder
• 3. In the interface folder, create a new folder named ‘AddOns’
• 4. Copy the full BuffThrottle folder into the new ‘AddOns’ folder
• 5. That’s it, launch WAR
That’s all you have to do, and should give you a nice performance boost. Now on to the next phase…

Custom Graphics Card Settings
The second fix that I’ve come across has to do with your graphic cards advanced settings. Customizing these settings will ensure optimized performance, and better graphic quality.
For nVidia graphics cards:
• 1. Go to Control Panel, and open the ‘nVidia Control Panel’
• 2. Select ‘Advanced View’ and then ‘Manage 3D settings’
• 3. Click on the ‘Program Settings’ tab, click ‘Add’, and point it towards your WAR.exe location. What this does, is only applies the changes to Warhammer Online, not other applications.
• 4. Set Anisotropic Filtering to 16X
• 5. Set Anti-Aliasing to something to you know your card can handle. 4X is a safe bet.
• 6. Set Texture Filtering to ‘Performance’
• 7. Set Negative LOD Bias to ‘Clamp’
• 8. If you are using an LCD Screen, set ‘Vsync’ and ‘Triple Buffering’ to ‘Force On,’ if you are not using an LCD screen, make sure these two are off
• 9. Apply the changes and close the control panel
For non-nVidia graphics cards, set your custom graphics card settings to something similar to this:
• - Anti-Aliasing: 8X, Temporal enabled, Edge-detect 24X
- Adaptive Anti-Aliasing: Disabled (It messes up the transparent parts of face polygons.)
- Anisotropic Filtering: 16X
- Catalyst AI: Disabled
- Wait for vertical refresh: On
- Triple buffering: Enabled
The next time you run Warhammer Online you should notice a significant improvement in performance and graphic quality. I expect that eventually Mythic will incorporate these changes into the client as standard, but for now changing them manually isn’t too hard, so it’s definitely worth doing if you are experience hic-ups and stuttering.
